Algiers, September 30, 2024 - Ambassador Atilio Berardi presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Berardi was received at the "El Mouradia Palace", which houses the main offices of the Algerian presidency, in an event that he shared with the ambassadors of Portugal, India, Germany and Mozambique.
After the presentation of the letters, President Tebboune invited Ambassador Berardi to hold a bilateral meeting in which he expressed his commitment to move towards an expansion of ties between the two countries, especially this year, which marks 60 Aniversary of Diplomatic Relations.
Ambassador Atilio Berardi stressed that Algeria is an important commercial partner of Argentina, usually ranking among the largest destinations for foreign exports. He said that trade is nourished by the complementary nature of both economies, which is why the challenge they face is, on the one hand, the deepening of commercial ties and, on the other, the diversification of products and sectors. The officials also discussed the importance of updating the mechanisms of cooperation in energy and mining, including the agreements for the better functioning of the Nur nuclear reactor in Draria run by the Argentine company INVAP.
Likewise, Ambassador Atilio Berardi extended the gratitude of the Argentine Republic to the historical and permanent support that the government and people of Algeria have given to the legitimate rights of the Argentine Republic in the Question of the Malvinas Islands, in various international forums.
The Credentials are the formal documents that accredit Ambassador Berardi as the representative of the Argentine Republic in Algeria. These legal documents confer authority to negotiate and promote diplomatic initiatives on behalf of our country and the presentation ceremony is an act that dates back to the early days of the establishment of diplomatic ties between peoples. The act of presenting the Letters of Credence is a moment of enormous significance since it symbolizes the formal recognition of a diplomatic representative by the receiving country, in this case Algeria.
