Algiers, May 8, 2026 – The Argentine Embassy in Algeria supported the visit of a high-level delegation from INVAP, Argentina's flagship company that exports technology and innovation worldwide, as part of a new phase in bilateral nuclear cooperation.
In the presence of Ambassador Atilio Berardi, the Argentine delegation met with Algeria's Secretary General of Energy, Nabil Kafi.
The INVAP delegation was led by Eng. Gabriel Absi, Deputy General Manager of Operations, and included Ana Cabrera Nicola (Deputy General Manager of Finance and Corporate Affairs), Felipe Albornoz (Vice President of the Nuclear Division), Valeria Modigliani (Director of Legal Affairs), Edgardo Simoncini (Project Manager), and Malena Ortiz (Country Manager in Algeria).
Strategic Agreement for Technological Upgrades
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of an agreement to upgrade the NUR reactor, a multipurpose facility built by INVAP in Algeria and inaugurated in 1989.
This agreement reaffirms the strategic partnership between the two countries and positions Argentina as a reliable high-tech partner.
The NUR reactor is a multipurpose facility that produces radioisotopes on a laboratory scale, supports basic and applied research, and serves as a training school for future Algerian nuclear engineers and physicists. The technological upgrade will extend its operational life and enhance its capabilities.
This agreement strengthens Argentina's technological presence in Algeria's nuclear sector and opens up new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as nuclear medicine, agriculture, industry, and specialized human resources training.
