Ambassador of the Argentine Republic, Atilio Berardi, presented on June 20th, copies of his Letters of Credence before Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, thus officially beginning his mandate as Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The Letters of Credence are the official documents that accredit Ambassador Berardi as representative of Argentina to Algeria. This document provides the authority to negotiate and carry out all diplomatic endeavors on behalf of Argentina. The presentation of the copies of Letters of Credence is the first formal moment in order to recognize the ambassador by the hosting state, which is then complemented by the solemn act of delivery of the letters to the President of Algeria.
Foreign Minister Attaf welcomed Ambassador Berardi, highlighting the intense economic relations and historical ties that unite both countries, showing at the same time his willingness to increase the existing ties.
At the meeting, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf was accompanied by Mr. Mokhtar Amine Khelif, Director General of Protocol, and by Ahmed Hachemi, Director General of America, of the Algerian Foreign Ministry. Along with the ambassador, the Argentine delegation was made up of the diplomats who head the Political Affairs section, Mr. Facundo Meli, and the Economic-commercial Section, Mr. Julián Vazeielles.
Ambassador Berardi expressed his gratitude to the Foreign Minister for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his intention to promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges between both countries. He also told him that Argentina and Algeria are in a transcendental stage of consolidating their ties, upon celebrating this year the Sixtieth Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
During the meeting, they reviewed the main topics on the agenda of the bilateral relationship and the guidelines for moving forward in the near future, with the aim to increase bilateral cooperation in the economic field and in multilateral issues. This aim will be accomplished with the upcoming meetings of high officials.
