Embassy Participates in Inauguration of Mega Mining Railway Project

Béchar, February 1, 2026 – Ambassador Atilio Berardi participated in the inauguration of the Western Mining Railway Line, a key strategic infrastructure project for Algeria's future economic development. The event was attended by high-level government authorities and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.

Railway Project Characteristics
This mega-infrastructure project connects the towns of Béchar, Béni Abbès, and Tindouf with the Gara Djebilet mineral deposit, spanning 950 kilometers built in less than two years across the Saharan desert. The project links one of the world's largest iron reserves with the industrial north of the country, representing a milestone in the capacity to execute large-scale projects in extreme environments.

Strategic Impact and Opportunities
The Western Mining Railway Line positions Algeria as a potential global player in the iron and steel market, opening new logistical and competitiveness opportunities for the national economy. This infrastructure will facilitate the exploitation and commercialization of the region's mineral resources, contributing significantly to the country's economic development.

Argentine Diplomatic Presence
The participation of the Argentine Embassy in this event reinforces the active monitoring of Algerian strategic developments and Argentina's interest in deepening bilateral cooperation. In this regard, progress will be made in analyzing opportunities for bilateral collaboration in priority sectors such as mining, logistics, and infrastructure.
