Argentina and Algiers: Cooperation in Urban Development

Algiers, Algeria, May 22, 2025 – The Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Algeria, Atilio Berardi, held a working meeting with Mohamed Abdennour Rabhi, Wali (Governor) of Algiers, with the aim of establishing joint urban agendas and exploring opportunities for collaboration within the framework of the 2030 modernization plan for the Algerian capital.


The meeting identified specific areas of bilateral cooperation that could be leveraged given Argentina's technical capabilities and experience in urban management, in line with the sustainable development goals of the city of Algiers.

Opportunities for Argentine Companies
The 2030 modernization plan for the Algerian capital presents significant opportunities for Argentine firms specializing in:
-Integrated urban waste management: Technological solutions for the treatment, recycling, and final disposal of urban solid waste.
-Efficient public transportation systems: Implementation of transportation corridors, traffic management systems, and fleet modernization.
-Comprehensive urban planning: Development of territorial management tools and sustainable urban planning projects.

Characteristics of the City of Algiers
The Algerian capital represents a strategic partner for the internationalization of Argentine companies due to its central position in the region, accounting for approximately 30% of Algeria's national GDP. This port is the main logistics hub in the Maghreb and the center of the country's political and economic decisions. It currently has a population of 5 million and serves as a strategic gateway to the African continent.
