Algiers, March 18, 2026 – The Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Algeria, Atilio Berardi, accompanied by officials from the commercial section, visited the facilities of Sarl Gigi Lait, the company owning the Chefa brand, which holds 45% of the national powdered milk market in Algeria. The meeting confirmed the strength of a commercial relationship that positions the Argentine dairy industry as a trusted partner in North Africa.
Tour of Production Facilities
During the visit, Ambassador Berardi toured the Sarl Gigi Lait facilities, including packaging areas, the quality control laboratory, and warehouses, where he was able to verify the importance of the Argentine input in the company's production process. The leading company in the Algerian market depends on Argentine powdered milk as a fundamental raw material for its production.
Strategic Commercial Relationship
The Algerian company annually imports more than 2,000 tons of Argentine whole milk powder with a 26% fat content, explicitly recognizing the superior quality of the Argentine product. Its main international supplier is the Argentine firm Adecoagro, consolidating a long-term commercial relationship that benefits both parties.
This consolidated commercial relationship reflects the confidence of the Algerian market in Argentine dairy products and positions the national industry as a quality benchmark in the region. The Argentine Embassy maintains close monitoring of this commercial relationship and promotes negotiations to reduce the sanitary and administrative requirements that condition the increase in export volumes from the thriving Argentine dairy sector.
The diplomatic mission will continue promoting and strengthening these strategic ties that benefit both countries, working on trade facilitation and opening new opportunities for the Argentine dairy sector in the Algerian market.
