Algiers, May 21, 2025 – The Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Algeria, Atilio Berardi, made a working visit to the headquarters of Sonatrach, the largest energy company in Africa and the twelfth largest natural gas exporter worldwide, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation ties in this strategic sector for the development of both nations.
The meeting with Sonatrach's CEO, Rachid Hachichi, allowed for the discussion of concrete opportunities for collaboration between Argentina and Algeria in the energy sector, based on the complementary capabilities of both countries.

Sonatrach is positioned as a key player in the global energy landscape, controlling approximately 80% of Algeria's hydrocarbon production. The company operates in 35 countries on different continents and is among the top twenty global companies in the energy sector. Sonatrach is an Algerian economic pillar, representing approximately 30% of the national GDP.
Identified Areas of Cooperation
During the meeting, various lines of bilateral collaboration were explored, including:
- Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Cooperation
Exchange of knowledge and best practices in the liquefied natural gas value chain, from exploration to commercialization.
- Petroleum Technology Development
Collaboration in research and development of technologies for the optimization of hydrocarbon exploration and production processes.
- Renewable Energy
Promotion of joint projects in clean energy, leveraging Argentina's experience in solar, wind, and green hydrogen.
- Business Agreements
Facilitation of strategic alliances between Argentine and Algerian companies in the energy sector.
