Ambassador Atilio Berardi met with the Director of the Algerian Interprofessional Grain Office (OAIC)

Algiers, April 7, 2025 – As part of the work agenda to strengthen bilateral trade ties, the Argentine Ambassador to Algeria, Atilio Berardi, led a productive meeting at the Algerian Interprofessional Grain Office (OAIC), the central body for the grain market in North Africa.

The working meeting, which included the participation of the Embassy's Commercial Section team, was attended by the Director General of the OAIC, Nasreddine Messaoudi. The dialogue focused on identifying and developing concrete opportunities for Argentine companies to increase their presence in the Algerian food market.

Key Opportunities Identified
During the meeting, areas of mutually beneficial collaboration were outlined:
-Commodity Exports: Algeria imports more than 70% of its cereals, representing a substantial opportunity for Argentine exports of wheat, corn, and legumes.
-Knowledge Transfer: The possibility of cooperation in agroindustrial technology was explored, a sector where Argentina has world-class expertise.
-Strategic Cooperation: Price and supply stabilization mechanisms were discussed, ensuring a stable and predictable flow of trade.

Argentina, a Strategic Supplier for Algeria
The meeting highlighted the complementarity between the two economies. Algeria operates under a state monopoly system for the import of basic foodstuffs through the OAIC, requiring reliable and large-scale suppliers. Argentina, for its part, has the productive capacity, competitive quality, and experience to meet this demand efficiently and sustainably.

Ambassador Berardi's direct leadership reinforces Argentina's commitment to positioning itself as a reliable trading partner for Algeria, opening doors for the national agroindustrial sector to consolidate and expand its exports to a key market in Africa.
