Oran, April 28, 2025 – The Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Algeria, Atilio Berardi, made a working visit to meet with the Governor (Wali) of the province of Oran, Samir Chibani, with the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation in strategic economic sectors.
The meeting identified concrete opportunities for Argentine companies in this region, which constitutes one of Algeria's most dynamic development hubs and a commercial gateway to the western part of the country.
Strategic Sectors for Bilateral Cooperation
During the meetings, five priority areas with potential for the development of joint projects were identified:
• Energy and Gas: Oran is consolidating its position as a strategic center for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil sectors, presenting opportunities for the transfer of Argentine technology and compressed natural gas (CNG) equipment.
• Agribusiness: Since Algeria imports approximately 70% of its food, with the majority entering through the port of Oran, opportunities are opening up for the export of Argentine dairy products, meats, and citrus fruits.
• Logistics: As Algeria's second-largest port, Oran offers opportunities for foreign trade and distribution companies seeking to establish themselves in the region.
• Technology: Within the framework of the province's digitalization process, there are opportunities for Argentine software, fintech, and biotechnology companies.
• Cultural Industries: The region's historical heritage and the appreciation for Argentine culture create opportunities for the joint organization of film festivals, gastronomic events, and Spanish language teaching programs.
As a result of this visit, it was agreed to establish sectoral working groups to advance the implementation of specific projects in each of the identified areas. The Argentine Embassy will facilitate contact between Argentine companies and local authorities to realize these business opportunities.
The province of Oran, with its strategic position as the economic center of western Algeria and its first-class port infrastructure, represents a potential trading partner for Argentine products and services in the African market.
